What is Device as a Service (DaaS)?

In short, DaaS is a service where devices are purchased for a fixed price per month complete with related IT services and support. You only pay for what you use.

A Device as a Service contract comprises a range of services such as installation, repairs, maintenance, exchange, and disposal of devices. Your IT department can practically let it take care of itself while your employees get the latest devices.

How is DaaS different from hardware leasing?

DaaS is often compared to hardware leasing. In both cases, you only pay for what you use, not ownership of the devices.
The big difference to leasing is that with DaaS, you outsource the entire process—from procurement, maintenance and support to exchange and the secure disposal of devices for your end users. With DaaS, you simply return your devices at the end of the contract.

Hardware leasing is also referred to as finance leasing as you gain ownership of devices at the end of the contract. However, when you sign the contract, you do not know how high the residual value will be and you are also responsible for admin and maintenance of the device(s) throughout the contract term.

What do CapEx and OpEx mean?

You might have heard people talking about CapEx and OpEx, but what do they even mean?

Operating expenses (OpEx) are recurring or operating costs. CapEx, on the other hand, stands for capital expenses such as investments in products. Secondment is a good example of OpEx. You hire the expert you need at a pre-agreed hourly rate for a defined number of hours.

Purchasing devices for your employees, however, falls under CapEx. When you buy a printer, for example, the procurement costs come under CapEx while the annual paper and ink costs would be OpEx.

How does DaaS support remote working?

Both mobile devices and computers can be sent to employees’ homes. They are fully configured so that end users can get started right away. We can keep an eye on devices remotely—with proactive monitoring—so that faults are picked up and ironed out immediately, meaning the end user can stay productive wherever they’re working.

How much does DaaS cost?

When you opt for Device as a Service, you pay a fixed monthly fee regardless of the number of repairs or service requests.

You pay for the package as a whole and not for devices and services separately. The monthly instalment depends on the number and type of devices and what accessories you buy. What’s more, it doesn’t matter what the residual value of the devices are and there are no service levels to choose from.

Have old devices lying around? Your DaaS partner can take them off your hands in return for their residual value.

Why are personas important?

With DaaS, we define personas within your organisation to standardise device management. We offer a selection of products for each persona, tailored to the specific needs and requirements of each type of employee. You can choose from various devices, accessories, and features per persona.

What is Mobile Device Management (MDM)?

Mobile Device Management lets you manage, install, and configure mobile devices remotely. The security software ensures that key company data are always protected. In the case of theft, data can be remotely erased so that no one can actually gain access to your business data.

What is zero-touch enrolment?

Zero-touch enrolment is part of DaaS and encompasses the services that ensure your devices are fully configured and ready to use and then delivered to your end users’ homes or offices.

How does DaaS boost employee satisfaction?

With DaaS, your employees get the latest and therefore fastest devices. Moreover, they get the tools that meet their actual business requirements. In the event of downtime or incidents, a replacement is sent out straight away meaning work can continue uninterrupted and productivity doesn’t suffer.

What brands are available for DaaS Compute?

Each persona has various devices and peripherals to choose from like keyboards, mice, and additional monitors. We offer the latest laptop models from HP, Lenovo, and Apple with all lifecycle services included.

What brands are available for DaaS Mobile?

With DaaS Mobile, you get the latest smartphones and tablets from Samsung and Apple.

This means you can be sure of meeting all the wide-ranging needs of your employees. Each persona has various devices and peripherals to choose from like keyboards, mice, and additional monitors. We offer the latest laptop models from HP, Lenovo, and Apple with all lifecycle services included.

What services are covered by the ARP DaaS solution?

The monthly fee covers hardware and IT lifecycle service costs as well as services like data storage and erasure, reverse services, desk-to-desk support, software updates and end user support. In this way, we can unburden your IT team, giving them more time to concentrate on the essentials—your core business.

What are the financial benefits of Device as a Service?

DaaS helps you minimise financial risks. Device as a Service is comparable to purchasing a subscription. You buy services and products in an “as-a-service” model, paying a monthly fee that covers only what you use, saving you from making a large investment in hardware and software.

You also work with a scalable package and predictable and transparent IT costs per month. The fee covers IT lifecycle services such as software updates and end user support, too.
