Product details for Synology DiskStation DS1819+ 8-bay NAS
The DS1819+ desktop NAS from Synology efficiently stores your files and data. This DS1819+ NAS (network-attached storage) device, unlike the usual external hard drives, can be directly integrated to your network. It also requires significantly less power than regular PCs and offers you over enough space for all your data. The desktop NAS device and is equipped with an Intel Atom C3538 4-core 2.1 GHz processor. With this model's 4 GB of RAM several users can access its data at the same time. The following data storage arrays are available for this desktop NAS system: 0, 1, 10, 5, 6 and JBOD. JBOD (or "just a bunch of disks") allows you to connect hard drives of various sizes to create a multi-drive storage system. Unlike RAID levels, you will not lose any storage capacity of the various drives you combine.
Using RAID 0 means your hard drives (ideally of equal storage capacities) are interconnected and work parallely. This increases performance and speed as the work is split bewteen multiple drives, but there is no fault tolerance. Using RAID 1 means you get high data security. This is achieved by mirroring, which simply means that your data is duplicated from one drive to another, so that if one fails, nothing is lost. This also means that the total storage capacity of your drives will be halved. RAID 1 is best suited for smaller NAS systems. Using RAID 5 means your data is split among multiple hard drives — when one drive has an error the data is copied and distributed to the other drives. With this method you can retain the storage capacity of all your drives. It's the ideal choice for larger NAS systems with more than three drives. RAID 6 offers you high data security and is still operational even if two hard drives in the system fail.
Take advantage of great quality and all-round excellent service, from the moment you order to the delivery of your purchase.
