So what does this MOT involve? It starts with a workload assessment. To do this, we deploy monitoring tools at host level to analyse how your infrastructure is being used. The tools are easy to install, run entirely in memory and have no noticeable impact on the performance of your environment.

Over a short period, they collect data on metrics such as latency, IOPS, throughput, virtual machines, CPU utilisation and memory usage, building a clear picture of what is happening across your data centre environment. The assessment shows how much capacity is needed during peak periods, which systems are under the greatest load and where spare capacity remains.

That insight matters because many organisations simply do not have it. They know how much capacity they have purchased, but not necessarily how much of it is actually being used on a typical working day. In some cases, the gap between the two is large enough to reveal savings worth thousands of euros.
