Product details for QNAP TS-1677XU-RP 4GB 16-bay NAS
Make sure you and your team are ready for the workday with the TS-1677XU-RP-1200-4G rackmount NAS from QNAP. This TS-1677XU-RP-1200-4G NAS (network-attached storage) device, unlike the usual external hard drives, can be integrated directly to your network. It also needs much less power than regular PCs and offers you sufficient space for all your data. The rackmount NAS device and is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 3.4 GHz processor. With this model's 4 GB of RAM several users can access its data at the same time. You can incorporate the following data storage arrays in this rackmount NAS system: 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6 and JBOD. JBOD (or "just a bunch of disks") allows you to connect hard drives of various sizes to create a multi-drive storage system. Unlike RAID levels, you will not lose any storage capacity of the various drives you combine.
When using RAID 0, hard drives (ideally of equal storage capacities) are interconnected and work in parallel — this means a higher, faster performance as computer tasks are not handled by just one drive. However, there is no fault tolerance because data is not mirrored, which means this RAID level is better suited for high speed storage of large volumes of data. Using RAID 1 means you get high data security. This is achieved by mirroring, which simply means that your data is duplicated from one drive to another, so that if one fails, nothing is lost. This also means that the total storage capacity of your drives will be halved. RAID 1 is best suited for smaller NAS systems. RAID 5 stores your data on multiple drives, which gives you high data security. If a drive begins to fail, the data it holds will be recreated and distributed to the other drives allowing users to continue working uninterrupted. For larger NAS systems with more than three hard drives RAID 5 is the ideal choice to retain optimal data security and total drive storage capacity. When using RAID 6 you get higher data security, even if two hard drives fail, the system will still function.
